👩💻 ABOUT THIS PROJECT
The ancient Greek medical scientist Hippocrates put forward the famous body fluid theory, that the human body contains four components: "Blood, Mucus, Yellow Bile, and Black Bile". The different proportions of each body fluid will lead to different temperament types. "Color Lab" takes printing four colors (CMYK) and "body fluid theory" as the theoretical core concepts. It connects the four body fluids with the four colors of red, yellow, blue, and black, and analyzes the composition of each person's body fluid through a test of 20 questions. It accounts for the proportion and obtains the percentage values of the four colors to generate individual colors. Based on this theory, a comprehensive visual design of applets and dynamic posters is derived. Through the above design, to show the uniqueness of each person, to achieve the purpose of combining art and science, and showing rational charm with perceptual methods.
Purpose
Use colors to represent different people
Method
The four colors of CMYK printing correspond to the four body fluid components, and the proportion in the human body leads to the difference in the final color
Form
Mobile Application, Motion Posters, Exhibitions
Social Value
reflect people's inherent cognition and stereotype of a particular type of human being
🎬 DESIGN PROCESS AND TIMELINE
😎 PROBLEM & SOLUTION
THE PROBLEM
Color is a significant part of daily life, and different colors have different connotations. In people's cognition, those colors with rich connotations are often only some simple ones, just red, yellow, blue, and black. However, colors should be various likes people's different personalities.
THE SOLUTION
Everyone should have a color that is unique to themselves. When you see this color, you can understand their temperament and personality.
🔍 PRIMARY RESEARCH
Existing color component tests:
A single color can reflect commonality, but it is not easy to reflect characteristics
Josef Albers's Work
He explored the many possibilities of color, built his own color theory, emphasized the relativity and interaction of colors, and grasped the complex relationship between colors
Survey
I did a survey, and let people guess her personality in 4 colors division. Then I concluded the results into colors. I totally collected 24 feedbacks (which contains the girl's self-report). Except for the judgment of the girl, I also got information about their familiarity.
Here are all the colors I gathered, the first black one is her self-definition, and the circles on the right show the color and the interviewee's relationship with her. The inner parts are those closer, while the outer are those unfamiliar.
However, the photo may lead to people's answers, so in the next step, I only showed some words, like Workers, Children.
Worker's Colors
Children's Colors
From the results, it can be seen that these colors have both commonalities and characteristics but none of them are exactly the same, as if each different person.
Insights
Based on the research, I decided to design a "color lab" to study the composition of humans.
